Breast Augmentation in Hattiesburg, MS
Dr. Richard A. Pecunia offers breast augmentation to patients in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Lamar County, and surrounding areas.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast size is important to women for a variety of reasons. Many women have lost breast volume after having children while others have never had breasts that they felt were proportionate to their size. These issues and more have made breast augmentation—also known as breast enlargement, breast implants, or mammoplasty—one of the most common cosmetic procedures in Hattiesburg. If you are dissatisfied with your breast size, then breast augmentation is a choice to consider.
Dr. Richard A. Pecunia is a board-certified plastic surgeon with vast experience in the Hattiesburg area. He has assisted breast augmentation patients from Forrest County, Lamar County, and outlying locations. How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?
Women these days have a variety of breast implants to choose from. Dr. Pecunia prefers the smooth-walled implants since they tend to give a more natural result than textured implants. Two types of breast implants are available: saline or salt-water filled implants and silicone or gel-filled implants. Both are excellent, safe choices. To find out which type and size are best for you, Dr. Pecunia will discuss your options extensively during your consultation with him in Hattiesburg.
A mammoplasty procedure is performed under general anesthesia in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. Dr. Pecunia believes this is the safest approach, and patients tolerate this much better than local anesthesia with sedation. He will typically make a peri-areolar, or “under the nipple,” incision because it heals very well and is almost invisible when completely healed. With silicone implants, however, generally a submammary, or “under the breast,” incision is necessary. The breast implant will then be inserted behind the breast tissue or above the breast muscle, depending on the size and shape of the implant, as well as your body frame and the amount of breast tissue you have.
Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Women come to our Hattiesburg office for breast augmentation because they have small or asymmetrical breasts, reduced firmness from aging, or drooping and sagging breasts after childbirth and/or breastfeeding.
If you’re interested in breast enlargement, it’s important to make sure you’re in generally good health, have a history of physical activity, and are emotionally stable. Also, while our breast augmentation surgery can enhance your breast size and improve firmness, it will not completely alter your body. The best candidates for mammoplasty have an understanding of the procedure and realistic expectations of the results.
What Kind of Post-Operative Breast Augmentation Care Can I Expect?
After your breast augmentation surgery, you can expect some soreness, bruising, and swelling. While there is some moderate discomfort, Dr. Pecunia can prescribe medication to control it. You’ll be directed to wear a surgical bra for a few days and to avoid any heavy lifting.
Some of our patients experience reduced sensation in their nipples after breast augmentation, but this is only temporary. The feeling should return to normal once healing is complete. You’ll be back to work within a week and performing all of your daily activities within a few weeks.
What Are the Typical Results of Breast Augmentation?
Breast implants can increase the fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the balance of your figure, and enhance your self-image and self-confidence. Dr. Pecunia has done more than 1,000 of these procedures and hasn’t come across anyone who is sorry that they did it.
