What is a Brow Lift?

If you are bothered by expression lines or other signs of aging in the forehead and brow region, a brow lift may be right for you. A brow lift, or forehead lift, minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose between the eyes. How is a Brow Lift Performed?

Our brow lifts in Hattiesburg are commonly performed under general anesthesia and take around 30 to 90 minutes. An incision is made above the ears, either in front of or behind the hairline. Dr. Pecunia can then remove excess skin and any wrinkle-causing muscles and lift eyebrows to a more youthful position.

Another forehead lift technique involves inserting a long, thin tube called an endoscope through several tiny incisions in the scalp to work on the internal structures of the forehead. Sometimes, a combination of these two techniques is used to achieve optimal results.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

If you're unhappy with sagging brows, deep creases on the forehead or furrows between the brows and top of the nose, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift. While most of our forehead lift patients in Hattiesburg are between 40 and 70 years old, the procedure can also be done on younger adults who are unhappy with their furrowed brows. For the best results, patients should have good skin tone and elasticity. Often times, brow lifts are done in conjunction with other facial procedures, including facelifts or blepharoplasty.

What Kind of Post-Operative Brow Lift Care Can I Expect?

While there's relatively little pain associated with the surgery, Dr. Pecunia can prescribe medication to control any discomfort following a forehead lift with him in Hattiesburg. You'll experience some swelling and bruising and may even develop black eyes temporarily. To help reduce swelling, you'll want to keep your head elevated and use cold compresses.

Bandages will be removed within one to three days, and sutures will either dissolve on their own or be removed within seven to 10 days. Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most are able to resume normal activities within two weeks. Strenuous activity, however, should be avoided for several weeks.
