What is a Tummy Tuck?
If you want a tighter, flatter abdomen, then a tummy tuck may be appropriate to help achieve your goals. Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin and, in some cases, restores weakened or separated muscles. This creates an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer, often enhancing your overall body image and confidence.
Dr. Richard A. Pecunia is a board-certified plastic surgeon who can help you achieve the body you've always wanted. He has performed countless tummy tucks on patients throughout Mississippi, including residents of Hattiesburg, Forrest County and Lamar County. How is a Tummy Tuck Performed?
An abdominoplasty with Dr. Pecunia in Hattiesburg is an outpatient procedure. You will be placed under general anesthesia. Incisions are typically made in the bikini line and sometimes around the navel. Then, the skin is separated from the abdomen and lifted up. Excess skin and fat are removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened before the incision is closed. Both incisions are well-hidden and fade nicely with time
Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
In general, if you're unhappy with the exercise-resistant flabby skin around your abdominals and you have realistic expectations about the procedure, you may benefit greatly from a tummy tuck. At our office in Hattiesburg, the best candidates for a tummy tuck are typically women who have had several children and are otherwise fairly close to their ideal body weight. In addition, men and women who have lost a large amount of weight often opt to have abdominoplasty. However, tummy tucks are not a substitute for diet and exercise. If you are overweight, Dr. Pecunia may encourage you to lose weight prior to having the procedure.
What Kind of Post-Operative Tummy Tuck Care Can I Expect?
Following your tummy tuck, you may experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort. Dr. Pecunia will put in a post-operative pain pump, which greatly helps manage the discomfort for the first few days. Drains are also placed and will be removed within a week after surgery.
You'll be given a compression garment, which supports the abdomen and aids in healing. This should be worn for at least a month. Most stitches will be removed in five to seven days, while deeper stitches are taken out two to three weeks following the procedure. Most of our tummy tuck patients in Hattiesburg are able to go back to work after about two weeks. However, you should avoid any strenuous activity for up to six weeks.
What are the Typical Results of a Tummy Tuck?
Patients are typically thrilled with their new shape and excited about their slimmer, trimmer look. Real-life examples can be found in our Hattiesburg tummy tuck before and after pictures.
Some patients are concerned about the scarring involved in a tummy tuck. While there is some scarring, Dr. Pecunia makes every effort to hide them as best as possible, and they do fade nicely over time.
What are Hattiesburg Tummy Tuck Costs?
